West Bengal SSC 2016 Teacher Recruitment Scam: List of 1,804 Teachers Name & Roll No Published By SSC - PDF
In a significant development, the West Bengal School Service
Commission (WBSSC) has officially released the names of 1,804 teachers marked
as “tainted” in connection with the controversial 2016 State Level Selection
Test (SLST) recruitment scam.
This move came after a Supreme Court directive issued on August 28, 2025, which instructed the commission to publish the list of tainted candidates within seven days.
Complying with the order, WBSSC uploaded the
detailed list on its official website at around 8:00 PM on Saturday.
What the Published List Contains
According to WBSSC, the uploaded document features:
*Names of 1,804 tainted teachers
*Roll numbers and serial numbers of each candidate
*Alphabetical arrangement for transparency and easy reference
However, the commission clarified that these candidates will
not be permitted to appear in any future recruitment examinations under WBSSC.
Background of the 2016 WBSSC Recruitment Scam
The controversy dates back to 2016, when large-scale
irregularities were alleged in teacher recruitment through the SLST.
Investigations later revealed tampering of OMR sheets, manipulation of merit
lists, and unlawful appointments.
On April 3, 2025, the Supreme Court annulled a total of
25,753 appointments, declaring the process invalid and corrupted. Among these,
5,303 candidates (teaching and non-teaching staff) were identified as tainted.
Out of them:
*1,804 were teachers (names published on Aug 30, 2025)
*15,803 were found untainted and may still be considered for
service
Official Statement from WBSSC
An official from the commission confirmed:
“In compliance with the Supreme Court’s directive, we have uploaded the names of 1,804 tainted candidates. These individuals will not be allowed in any upcoming recruitment processes.
The details have been arranged
alphabetically, along with roll and serial numbers, to maintain transparency.”
Impact and What Comes Next
This disclosure has brought a mix of relief and anxiety:
*For genuine candidates: The release strengthens transparency
and clears confusion regarding eligibility.
*For tainted candidates: They face disqualification from
future recruitment drives.
*For the education sector: The decision aims to restore trust
in WBSSC’s recruitment process and ensure fairness in the upcoming teacher
appointment exams scheduled for September.
